Sometimes you walk through the front door after a stressful day and wonder why your pet behaving differently?
Maybe they’re suddenly following you everywhere, barking, meowing, jumping all over you or doing that one thing they know drives you completely nuts!
Our first thought can be:
“What’s wrong with you today?”
But sometimes, it’s worth asking a different question.
What energy did I just bring through the front door?
Our animals are incredibly sensitive to us and our energy. They notice changes in our energy, emotions and behaviour, sometimes before we’ve even recognised those changes ourselves.
You may not think you’re stressed.
You’ve just had a busy day. You’ve been working, answering emails, dealing with people, organising dinner, thinking about tomorrow and mentally juggling 47 things at once!
Pretty normal, right?
But while your mind is saying, “I’m fine”, your body and energy may be saying something completely different.
And your pet notices.
Your Pet Feels You Before You Even Say Hello
When we aren’t grounded or present, our animals can feel that change.
We might physically be home, but energetically we’re still at work, in traffic, thinking about the conversation we had three hours ago or already planning tomorrow.
Your pet may then start trying to get your attention.
Sometimes it’s incredibly cute.
Other times… not so much!
They may become unsettled, demanding, vocal, clingy or start behaving in ways that frustrate you.
Then something interesting happens.
You notice they’re stressed and assume the anxiety belongs entirely to them.
But sometimes there’s an energetic exchange happening between you both.
You’re slightly stressed and edgy. Your pet responds to that energy. Their behaviour then makes you more frustrated, which they feel, and suddenly you’ve created a little stress loop between you.
Nobody deliberately caused it.
You’re simply responding to each other.
So How Do We Change It?
Here’s one of the easiest habits you can start today.
Before you walk into your home, stop at your outside doormat.
1. Swipe your feet across the mat and, while you’re doing it, have the intention that you’re wiping away the energy of your day.
Work. Traffic. Other people. Stress. Frustration.
Leave it outside.
2. Then take a couple of slow breaths before opening the door.
It sounds ridiculously simple, but you’re creating a physical and energetic reminder to come back into the present moment.
3. Now when you walk through the door and greet your fur baby, you’re actually there.
And believe me, your animals will be ever so grateful!
Another Way to Support our Animals
You can also use one of my Pet Hypnosis recordings, particularly the Healing Pet Hypnosis.
The Healing recording runs for approximately 20 minutes and is designed to create a calmer space while I communicate with your pet, gently relax them whilst they receive an energetic healing.
The communication and healing energy are embedded into the recording, so you can play it again and again working wonders on their energy.
And here’s the bonus.
While your pet is relaxing, you may find yourself slowing down too.
Put it on when they’ve been stressed, unwell or simply a little out of sorts and allow those 20 minutes to become quiet time for both of you.
My Pet Hypnosis range currently includes six different recordings, designed to support different everyday situations. My current recommendation is regular repetition, around 3–5 times a week for four weeks and then whenever your animal needs or wants it. You can play them daily like you would a meditation in the background just to shift the energy their energy and the home’s too.
You can purchase an individual Pet Hypnosis for $19.95, or choose a bundle of three for $47.99.
Because sometimes helping an anxious pet isn’t only about asking:
“What’s happening with them?”
Sometimes it’s also about checking in and asking:
“What’s happening with me, and what are we sharing with each other?”
When we become calmer, grounded and more present, we create a very different space for our animals to meet us in and that shift in your energy, creates a beautiful home for you and your pets.
